John Lewis at Vangarde receives breeam ‘outstanding’ rating

September 2014

John Lewis at Oakgate’s Vangarde development has just received a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating, which is the highest possible rating and the world’s first for a department store.
Oakgate was fundamental to providing the foundations for the rating through building the shell unit.

David Goult, development programme manager at John Lewis says “From early feasibility studies, we worked with Oakgate in setting our expectation for the shell and working with them collaboratively to ensure we are getting a building that is as energy efficient and as environmentally friendly as possible”.

BREEAM is the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings and it has become one of the mostly comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a buildings environmental performance so the ‘outstanding’ rating awarded to John Lewis shows the hard work and innovation put into the development.
